More for Chinese New Year

This was the 2nd card I made to send for this year's Chinese New Year.  I thought the first one was cute, but I have to say this one is my personal favorite.  I used Stampin' Up supplies, however, I did use a Hero Arts rubber stamp since it was so fitting for this Year of the Rabbit.  All my cards have now been mailed so they will be received before the 3rd.  Now I need to start thinking about what I'll make for next year's holiday.  lol

Manly Birthday

My husband, Scott, celebrated his birthday on Sunday.  I feel bad because I often give him a store-bought card (gasp!)  I probably would have done the same this year, except when he got a card from someone else in the mail he said to me, "Oh, it's just a store bought card."  Wow!  I had no idea that men cared about cards and felt that the handmade variety somehow meant more than the commercial type.  Maybe it's just because he lives with me and he's gotten used to me making most cards.  I don't know, but I do know that from now on, I'm making his cards.  This one was simple, but looks more masculine than most I make.

Wednesday Hostess Club

I thought I'd share the projects we made at Hostess Club on Wednesday.  Also, just a note about the All About Love class on January 31st.  Registration will close next week, so if you'd like to come, please get in touch with me at or use the Paypal link on the left of this page.  I have 3 really cute cards planned plus a special 3-D project that you'll want to give to someone you love.  Thanks and have a happy Stampin' weekend!

Chinese New Year

I never thought much about Chinese New Year until I married into a Chinese family.  I had vague recollections of seeing dragons in parades mentioned on the nightly news.  However, now that I'm part of this life, I have come to understand that Chinese New Year is a big deal.  It's probably the most significant of all the Chinese holidays.  It reminds me a little of a combination of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter all rolled into one.  It reminds me of Thanksgiving because of the importance of family, friends, and food.  It reminds me of Christmas because of the excitement and preparation leading up to it, and because of the tradition of giving children gifts of red envelopes filled with cash.  It reminds me of Easter because it is a holiday that focuses on reflection and renewal for the coming year.  I send greeting cards for Chinese New Year, much like I send cards for Christmas.  This year the holiday begins on February 3rd.  2011 is the Year of the Rabbit, so I wanted to incorporate a rabbit into my card theme.  What I did was combine 2 stamp sets, Kimono Kids and Blowing Kisses.  I carefully inked my rabbit without the heart bubbles and replaced them with the umbrella from the Kimono Kids.

Red Hat Card

I'm in charge of my group's Red Hat activity this month and needed an invitation.  Stampin' Up used to sell a stamp set for Red Hatters, but they don't any longer (sad face goes here!)  I opted for the Morning Cup stamp set and paired it with DSP in Poppy Parade and Concord Crush to pull in the red and purple color scheme.

Paper Clip Madness!

It all began when I participated in my first craft show a couple of months ago.  My paperclip bookmarks were my very best seller.  I tested the theory again when my friend did a craft show by sending a batch with her.  Guess what?  They ALL sold!  lol  So knowing that I will continue to make the bookmarks to sell, I needed some paperclips.  It's really tough to find the large 4" paperclips and almost impossible to find them in silver tone.  I found a supplier online, but that meant I needed to buy LOTS of paperclips.  I admit it, I have a problem when it comes to shopping, but I did what any crafter would do, I bought a bunch.  lol  My husband thinks I've lost my mind, my mother thinks I'm a hoarder, and one of my friends said, "What could you possibly do with that many paperclips?"  So friends, I'm listing them for sale.  I'm selling for almost what I paid, but I needed to pad in a little to pay for shipping (the shipping I paid to receive them and what I'll be paying to ship them out.)  They are $5/dozen (with a small discount to people who order 3 or 4 dozen) and that includes shipping to US addresses.  I have the paypal link set up to pay directly.  I will go to the post office to mail orders every Friday, so keep that in mind when you order, please.  :)     ***Note, after taking my first round of paperclips to the post office today to mail out, I was shocked at how much shipping cost.  I guess they are heavier than I thought!  lol  Anyway, that's why I had to increase the fee.  I actually lost money on the ones I shipped today, but now I know better.  hehe***

More with the Blossom Petals Punch!

I like to have more than one way to use my stampin' supplies, so I've been playing with my Blossom Petals Punch.  Here are a couple of things I've made with it.... plus a surprise ending!  hehe

My first video!

I'm excited to post my very first instructional video.  I apologize for the length.  I had to break it into 2 parts in order to get it into youtube (and believe it or not, these 2 parts are the shortened version!  Evidently I talk too much!  lol)  I hope you enjoy watching it.  The card I made uses the Build a Blossom stamp set (121923(W) or 121994(C) in the new mini-catalog.  I also used the coordinating Blossom Petals Punch (121808.)  Thanks for visiting!  :)

Happy New Year!

Happy 2011 to everyone! I received a cute little Hello Kitty video camera for Christmas and I'll be posting my very first instructional video on Tuesday (the same day the new Occasions Mini Catalog goes live!) The video is long.... and I'm trying to shorten it, but I think making concise videos may take some practice. lol See you Tuesday-
