Spring = Vacation!

I wanted to let all my followers know that this blog will be unmanned until March 10th.  It's spring and to me, that means it's time to go on vacation.  :)  I'm going to Washington, DC where I'm sad to say there will be no cherry blossoms yet, but I'll still be having a great time seeing our nation's capitol.  I even managed to get a tour of the White House which I've never done in the past!

I will be sending the shipping rebates for orders placed in my absence when I return.  Also, orders for the giant paper clips will not be filled until the week of the 10th.  I won't be taking a laptop with me, so I won't have access to my email.  I will, however, reply to all once I get home.

Here's another example of the bookmarks I've made recently.  Enjoy!

Thanks so much!

I just found out that I received an award based on the work I display on my blog.  I am honored and stressed because now I feel like I need to get my creative juices flowing and put up something with the "wow" factor.  I haven't felt very creative lately, but maybe this will be just what I need to encourage me go craft something.  :)

I'd like to thank Susan Byington of for awarding me this honor.  According to Susan, now that I have been awarded, I should do the following:

1) thank the person who gave this award to you and link it back to their blog (see above link)

2) share 8 things about yourself

3) pass this award to 8 other individuals that you have discovered

4) leave a comment so that they can pass along the recognition!
1.  I am a southern girl who now lives in Oregon!  As I looked outside at the snow today, I was excited, but also found myself longing for the tropical temperatures of Florida.

2.  I am married to a wonderful man named Scott who was born in China.  I'm still learning about his culture and frankly, he's still trying to understand the things I do.  I love that he understands my need to keep our kitchen table piled high with crafting projects.

3.  I love animals.  As a child I was surrounded by horses and dogs and learned to love all furry things.  My mother said the only time I really had a tantrum in public was when she suggested it was time for me to leave the petting zoo.  I evidently caused a scene that she still thinks of often.  And while I no longer have horses or cats, I do currently have an Australian shepherd named Baron.

4.  I love to travel and my husband does not.  It works out well because I get to travel with my mother.  We have a great time on our mother-daughter excursions!

5.  When I'm not crafting or traveling, I love playing video games.  I'm an avid World of Warcraft player and my husband and I kill internet dragons a few times a week.  (Aren't you glad I'm protecting you from those monsters?  lol)

6.  Some day I might get a "real" job, but right now I'm happy being a stay-at-home wife and Stampin' Up demonstrator.  I do, however, have a master's degree in health and gerontology.  If you're reading this and have a high paying job in the field you'd like to fill, please call me.  :P

7.  I am a simple girl.  I'm happy with just one or two pieces of jewelry, I don't regularly do my nails or go to spas.  I do, however, love chunky highlights in my hair and Vera Bradley bags.

8.  I like a wide range of music.  I have programmed my channel so it plays a mixture of  Contemporary Christian, Top 40, Punk, Hard Rock, Classical and Oldies.  It makes me happy.

So now that you know pretty much everything about me, I'd like to award the following blogs the Stylish Blogger Award.  Enjoy the inspiration!
Paula loves the blossom petals punch too.
Elin makes some of the coolest ornaments.
I love Kimberly's vintage and artistic style.
Anyone who can make a bow maker out of a fork gets my vote!
Renee is just like me and puts ribbon on everything!
I love Sage's sense of style.
Lee has such variety in her styles... bright and fun one day and vintage the next.
Krista's clean styles inspire me.

Elegant Eggplant & Cherry Cobbler

While it sounds like items on a restaurant menu, that's not what I'm talking about.  hehe  I combined colors I wouldn't normally use together and was happy with the results.  I also mixed in some whisper white cardstock and ribbon to brighten up the dark colors a bit.  I created this jr legal pad cover for a raffle at a Red Hatters event so that's why it was so important to use shades of purple and red.  I even added some rhinestones for bling.  :)

A "homemade" Valentine's Day

Let's face it, many of us are paying more attention to our spending habits.  We don't, however, have to spend a ton of money in order to have a special Valentine's Day.  I made gifts for my husband.  They were very low cost, but he will really appreciate them and he'll know since I made them, that they were gifts of my time and that is even more precious than cash.

Here is a little box I made for my husband.  I filled it with sunflower seeds so it will be a tasty treat for him.  The heart inside is popped up in the air by a paper "spring" made from a circle.

I also am giving him a big candy bar which I wrapped in some Love Letter dsp and retired ribbon.

Finally, I made him a coordinating "husband, lover, friend" themed card by using the Always Elegant stamp set (this one I got FREE during Sale-A-Bration!) and my favorite "go-to" set that is the most used in my entire collection, Tiny Tags, plus the coordinating punch.
Now that my crafting is done, I'll be cooking up a yummy supper and make him some of his favorite chocolate chip cookies.  Tonight we'll be snuggling up on the sofa and watching a movie together.  This will be a fun and memorable Valentine's Day without the stress of expensive gifts or having a pricey dinner out.  Here's wishing you a wonderful holiday!  :)

Pop Goes My Heart

This weekend I watched the movie Music & Lyrics in which an 80's "has-been" writes a new hit song.  One of the fictional band's original hits was called "Pop Goes My Heart" so that song plays often in the movie and really got stuck in my head (I hate it when that happens!)  This card reminds me of the song.  It's a pop-up card I made for Valentine's day.  I used Basic Black, Riding Hood Red, and Love Letters DSP.  I love the vintage look of the outside of the card, but then when you open it, "POP" goes a bunch of hearts to make it whimsical.

Blossom Petals Punch....Not just for flowers

I did a short video clip on other ways to use this great punch.  Then my friend, Margaret, told me that she had an idea.  She came over and we made dragonflies out of the punched petals.  For these cards we stamped the Built-A-Blossom image onto watercolor paper and then punched it out with the Blossom Petals Punch.  We used a retired flower punch to make the center and assembled our dragonflies.  I think they make for a really simple, but springy card embellishment.  Thanks Margaret for sharing this idea!  :)
