More "manly" cards

I wanted to show the other cards we made at the Operation Write Home Workshop last week.  I haven't made any (NOT ONE!) this week.  I think getting the 100 together to send made me kind of sick of cards for a little while.  Maybe I'll make something this weekend.. or maybe not.  I'll post when I do.  :)

Workshop for Operation Write Home

On Saturday, I held at workshop to benefit Operation Write Home (http://operationwritehome.org)  Peggy offered her home as our workspace and even provided us with yummy treats and lunch (thanks Peggy!)  Five of us worked for several hours to make cards.  When the fun ended, we had made 71 cards to mail to the organization.  Thanks to Stacy, Marsha, Peggy, and Margaret for making this card crafting endeavor a huge success!

Blogger Problems

It's weird.  I knew I had added a photo of a masculine card, yet when I checked it was gone.  Evidently Blogger has been having some problems.  I'm sure the missing card image will come back some day.  lol  Meanwhile, I thought I'd add another one I did in the same theme and color scheme.  I really do love the Open Sea stamp set.

The Open Sea

I have a thing for maps & globes, so I ordered The Open Sea from the summer mini catalog.  I thought it would make a nice travel journal, plus I thought it would be good for masculine cards.  I used it yesterday and I just love it!  I made a series of cards that I will be adding to the blog over the next week.  Here's the first from the stack:

If you have some time on your hands and could make some Father's Day cards this week, the folks at Operation Write Home would certainly appreciate it.  Evidently they are really short on those cards this year and I think it'll be a shame that our troops won't have access to a card to mail home to dad.  Normally I organize groups at my church to make cards, but there just isn't time, so instead I'm going to make some to send.  I probably will only send 10 or 12, but every little bit helps.  If you'd like to help and can mail a few Father's Day cards later this week or early next week, please do so.  There are volunteers in different parts of the county who accept the donations and ship boxes of cards to units stationed abroad.  You can learn more by visiting http://www.operationwritehome.org or by sending me a note at svzhong@gmail.com and I'll tell you how to participate.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms who visit my blog.  I wanted to share the card I sent to my mom this year.  I selected it because it reminded me of a book my mom used to read to me when I was young.  Afterwards she'd always tell me how much she loved me.   It's still very close to my heart.

Word Play

I've had the Word Play stamp set for some time and I use it often because I think it's so versatile.  I just love having large sentiments to put onto a card.  I made this card using dsp that will be in the upcoming 2011-2012 Idea Book and Catalog.  Just a little paper and that big Word Play stamp, make it super easy to make cards.  This is a card I'm taking to convention this year as a swap.  Shhh.. it's a secret, so don't tell.  hehe

You, too, can enjoy the Word Play stamp set.  It's 30% off this month in honor of National Scrapbooking Month.  The wood mount set (120308) is now $29.37.  The clear mount (120651) is only $20.27.

I'm also doing something extra for National Scrapbooking month.  If you sign up to join my team as a demonstrator this month through my website, I'll send you your choice of either of these sets for FREE!  In addition to my promotion, Stampin' Up is offering the Digital + Starter Kit at a discount of $122.50.  New demonstrator applications must be completed on my website before May 31, 2011 to qualify for the discounted rate plus the free stamp set.  To sign up go to my website at http://vanessa.stampinup.net and click "Join now."  After you complete your online registration, email me at svzhong@gmail.com and let me know whether you'd like Word Play in wood mount or clear mount.

Here's what you will receive in your Digital + Starter Kit:  (Note that it is customizable so if you want to select different stamp sets or card stock you can, as long as the value is the same!)
Fine Print:  People become Stampin' Up demonstrators for many reasons.  Some do it just to get a discount on their own supplies, while others do it as a business in order to make a little extra money.  When I began, I did it as a hobby to get my supplies at a discount, to get to go to the national Stampin' Up convention, to get the chance to pre-order things before they are available to the public, and to get the Stampin' Success monthly demonstrator magazine.  Since signing up my focus has changed some because I'm now using this as a business to earn some extra spending money.  My point is that the choice is yours.  I will never pressure you to sell more.  I understand if you just want a discount!  Also, in order to stay active as a demonstrator you will need to have $300 in sales each quarter (or $100/month.)  Those figures are before your 20% discount.  By signing up in May, you will have until the end of the following quarter to meet those sales minimums (so until September!)  If you don't order at least $300 retail before the end of September, you will become inactive.  There is no penalty to quit, so if you just wanted to get the demonstrator kit and then never place another order, that's fine.  It's ok.  I'm happy to have you return to being a customer if you no longer want to be a demonstrator.  :)

My hybrid scrapbook page

It's May 1st which means the paper I used on this scrapbook layout is officially retired, but I still wanted to post it anyway.  I found taking a photo of a scrapbook page to be rather difficult.  I tried to prop it up like I do my cards and it was too heavy to support itself.  I ended up putting my long sizzix plates behind it for support.  I put it on the balcony like I do when I photography cards.  Guess what happened?  It crashed to the ground.  lol  It lodged into a big bush and my husband ended up having to dig it out for me.  I finally opened my exterior door and propped it up against it (while still using the plates.)  It worked, barely.  I think this may be the last scrapbook page I ever post, so enjoy.  lol  I used My Digital Studio to make things to go on this page.  I did my title with a digital stamp and then added text.  I did all my long journaling with text.  And I did my squares using text that I then digitally stamped an image over.  My result was a relatively easy scrapbook layout done the old fashioned way but with new digital elements.

PS - There is a footnote to this story.  This was the first time I've ever used my Stampin' Up supplies to make a scrapbooking layout.  (Weird, right?)  I have been scrapbooking for a much longer time than I've been stamping.  And perhaps that is why I keep things separated.  I have my crafting space divided with my scrapbooking paper and embellishments in a separate area from my paper crafting and card making supplies.  This page is the first time my card supplies have moved to the scrapbooking area, but I suspect now that it's happened, I will start mixing the two more often.  Friends who know this will be shocked.  lol  Thanks for visiting, see you next time!
