Mixing Designer Series Paper

I attended a class when I was at convention to learn more about mixing papers.  The info I received was good and will help me mix patterns on my projects in the future.  After all, I’ve got lots of paper that I need to use!

Here was the project we made.  It’s a canvas that I painted and covered with paper.  Then I made paper flowers to add to the decoration.

Note:  Today is the last day to order the Reason to Smile stamp set for $5 with any $50 purchase.  Also, today is the last day to leave a comment on the blog, send me email, or place an order to be entered into the drawing to win the package of Designer Series Fabric.

Coming Attractions

It’s hard to believe it’s almost August!  Where did the summer go?  I feel like it just started here in Oregon.  Regardless, I’m looking forward to August and the beautiful colors of Fall that will be not far behind.  Also, the new holiday catalog goes live August 1st.  There are so many great things for your holiday crafting.  Here’s a sneak peek so you can start making your wish list.

This is made with the Perfectly Preserved stamp set and coordinating framelits.  It also shows off the new Orchard Harvest designer paper.  I love it!  I’ll be sharing more projects with this stamp set in the near future.

This was made with the Googly Ghouls stamp set, Howlstooth & Scaringbone designer paper, and some cool Striped Satin ribbon.  Don’t you love those cute googly eyes?

I think this would be a great “last-minute” gift for someone.  You could fill it with candy or a small candle and have a memorable gift.  it’s made with the Scentsational Season stamp set, coordinating holiday framelits and Mini Milk Carton die.  Plus, this year we’re offering scented embossing powder.  You could make the tag smell like peppermint!

So there’s your preview.  This is really just the tip of the iceberg.  I fell in love with this holiday catalog and think you will too.

Happy Stampin!

More Cute things from Storybook Friends

This stamp set has such cute images.  Here are some things you can do with it.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Friday, July 27, 2012

Hooray – It’s the weekend!  Hope you have lots of Stampin’ fun over the next couple of days.  I don’t own this stamp set, but my friend, Margaret, let me borrow it.  It’s so adorable!  I think I’m adding it to my wish list.

Floral Inspiration

I love floral stamp sets.  Most of the sets I own are a flower of one type or another.  For today’s share, I thought I’d let you see the swaps I got for 3 different floral stamp sets.  I own these 3 sets, so now I can case some really pretty cards!  (There are more floral cards made with more sets, many more, but we’ll save those for another posting.)

This first card using the Blooming with Kindness stamp set (pg 87.)

Several swappers used the Field Flowers set (pg. 78.)

Three swappers used Elements of Style.  (I used this set last year for my swaps and I still love it!)

I’ll have more florals for you later on.

Fun Cards

I thought I’d start sharing the swaps with some fun cards.  Since I don’t have children, I rarely buy stamp sets that would appeal to kids.  However, at convention all the demonstrators received the Moving Forward stamp set (pg 209 of the annual catalog.)  That stamp set was never on my wish list, but now that I have used it, I think it’s pretty cute.  The best part of purchasing that set is that Stampin’ Up donates $3 of the sale of each set to the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

I used the little bicycle from the set to make a card for a friend.  I think it’s cute with the little flowers hanging out of the basket on the back of the bicycle.  The following cards are ones I received as swaps:

In addition to that stamp set, I also received some cute kid-friendly cards.  This one uses the new Blast Off stamp set (pg 65.)

And I’ll be honest, I never thought I’d love a card made with the Make a Monster set on page 64, but I think this card is stinkin’ cute.  Now I’m thinking I could get this set to use for Halloween cards.  Unfortunately my reflection in the plastic adds yet another monster to the card.  Smile with tongue out

And, last, but not least, here’s a really pretty (& sparkly) card I made made with the QuinceaƱera set (item #129750) during Hispanic Night with Sandra Manwill.  (Did you know I sold stamps in both Spanish and French?  Stampin’ Up even has a catalog of stamp sets just in Spanish!) This stamp set is great for making invitations for that all-important event, but I think it’s so versatile it could be used for other occasions too.

That’s all for today.  Come back to see some more swaps!

The Swaps are coming

I love going to convention because I love coming home with hundreds of cards made by other demonstrators.  I get such great ideas.  I have a distinctive style, but that style might not be the same as my customers.  Having swaps to share allows my clients to see other ideas and ideas they might love.  I took 300 cards, but I did come home with some left over.  I also gave some of my swaps away because not all demonstrators took a lot of cards to swap.  In the end, I probably brought home about 250.  Here are the images of them stacked up on my table and kitchen counter.  Keep visiting the website because I’ll be adding individual shots starting tomorrow.

There is a downside of swapping cards.  It’s a challenge getting them all photographed for the website.  This task will take me a while, and I probably won’t be able to get all of them on the blog.  I’m going to sort them by stamp set or theme and add a few at a time.  Eventually you’ll have seen the majority of them.

Happy Stampin’-

PS – Don’t forget.  Email me or leave a comment to enter my contest for the free fabric.  You can also enter by placing an order on my website.  See details on prior post.

Designer Fabric Giveaway!

Have you tried Stampin’ Up fabric?  It comes in so many pretty patterns.  I don’t sew, but I find the fabric fun to use on cards and other craft projects.

Today I’m starting a fabric giveaway on the blog.  I’ll be giving away one package of Stampin’ Up’s Deck the Halls designer fabric valued at $9.95 to three different winners.  Each package has 3 designs in an extra-wide fat quarter size (about 27”x18”.)  It even includes a project sheet of suggested ways to use the fabric!  (See above for some fun project ideas.)  This fabric is not only great for Christmas, but it’s versatile enough to use everyday.

It’s easy to enter!  Starting today (July 24, 2012) and ending on July 31, 2012, at 11PM PST, you can earn one entry by commenting on any blog post I add from now until July 31st.  If you are not following my blog and cannot post, feel free to send me an email at svzhong@gmail.com to enter.  I’m giving you a another entry if you place any size order on my website this week.  (If you spend over $50, don’t forget to add your $5 Reason to Smile stamp set!)  Winners will be announced on the blog on Wednesday, August 1, 2012.  If you win, you will need to send me your address so I can mail your fabric.  Finally, while I appreciate all of my followers, this giveaway is only open to residents of the United States who are 18 years of age or older.

Convention was Awesome!

Honestly, I think this was the best convention ever!  The guest speaker, Jason Dorsey, was entertaining and kept me laughing while learning, the classes were fun and informative, and the projects adorable.  I’ll be starting to add photos of the swaps I received later this week.  I haven’t even unpacked my luggage yet, so I’m going to work on that task today.

Meanwhile, I thought I’d share the convention song & video with you.  I really liked this year’s song.  It is stuck in my head and I can’t stop humming it.  lol  The convention theme was “I Am…” so this was written for the convention.

A catchy theme song

My Swaportunity

Have you seen the Yoplait yogurt commercial which features a child at a spelling bee who is asked to spell the word “swaportunity”?  Whenever I see it, I don’t think about yogurt, but rather convention swaps.  The Stampin’ Up National Convention provides demonstrators with an excellent swaportunity.  Being able to swap ideas with other demonstrators really adds to the convention experience.  Maybe you never have problems coming up with ideas, but I really do.  Sometimes my cards start looking so much alike that I really need some fresh ideas to keep me going.
That said, I’m pleased to announce that I have finished my swaps.  I have 220 regular size greeting cards, 80 mini-cards, and 24 full-size scrapbooking pages.  I planned to put them in my carry-on bag because I think I’d die if they got lost, but they don’t fit.  I will have to put them into my large checked bag.  My current concern is where I’ll put my clothes.  There’s not much space left.  The swaps are my priority, so I might just have to wear the same clothes more than once.  (If you’re a demonstrator who is going, you might not want to sit right next to me.  lol)
I am heading to Salt Lake City on Tuesday and I’ll be home late on Sunday.  I hope to have some images of my swaps up on the blog by mid-week (maybe July 25th.)  Also, while I’m away, I won’t be sending the shipping rebate checks.  However, I’ll be sure to put them in the Tuesday morning mail when I return.  Here are the cards I’m taking for the swaps.  I signed up for several different organized swaps and I am really hoping to get some ideas for Christmas cards that I can use in upcoming classes.
This last card is a sneak peek of the new holiday catalog that will be released in August.  It’s called Watercolor Winter and allows for 2-step stamping.
Till next week, Happy Stampin’!

The Stampin’ Up Idea Book & Catalog

So many of my customers see the book as their catalog and it is.  You can see what’s available and make plans for your purchases.  However, I think it’s just as valid as an idea book.  I’m always on the lookout for fresh new ideas and I can always find something in the catalog.  Today’s card comes directly from page 83.  I made some modifications, but mostly it’s the same card.

I used the Summer Silhouettes and Itty Bitty Banners stamp sets.  Rather than using a large piece of Natural Composition dsp, I made the card from Very Vanilla and just added a large mat of the embossed dsp.  I used a bunch of ink colors:  Summer Starfruit, Riding Hood Red, Lucky Limeade, Calypso Coral, and Rich Razzleberry.  I also added some linen thread which wasn’t on the original card.  I think it’s bright and cheerful.  I made it for my friend, Diane, who likes colorful cards, so I think it will make her smile.

An Update on the New Paper Trimmer

I’ve had a couple of people ask me about purchasing the new paper trimmer.  Unfortunately, it’s not available yet.  Here is the latest information from Stampin’ Up:

My Primrose Poppies

As soon as I saw the new catalog, I knew I needed the Pleasant Poppies stamp.  It’s a large background stamp which lends itself well to quick cards.  I stamped with Versamark onto Pink Pirouette cardstock and then embossed with white embossing powder.  I watercolored the poppies with the new in color, Primrose Petals, and used a Certainly Celery marker for the stems.  I punched out a sentiment from the Trust God stamp set and placed it onto of a piece of Primrose Petals cardstock cut out with the middle size of the Delicate Doilies Sizzlits (I didn’t even have to punch out all those little pieces since they’d be covered anyway!)  Finally I added a Pink Pirouette bow.

I used a lot of products on the card, but I think it was worth the effort.  I love how it turned out and I think it’s a card I’ll use often with different color schemes.

Happy Birthday USA!

I don’t have patriotic stamp sets, so I created a birthday card in patriotic colors.  After all, July 4th, is the birthday of our nation.  We’re going to have a quiet holiday at home.

Our dog, Baron, is still recovering after his battle with George, a neighborhood pitbull.  He’s still wearing the “Cone-of-Shame” but he is walking much better, so I think he’ll be back to normal soon.  Baron doesn’t like loud noises, so he’s not a fan of the July 4th holiday.  Hopefully the neighborhood will be quiet for him.

If you’re traveling or just heading out for the day, I hope you have a great 4th!

Happy Birthday USA!

ps – I have the photos of Baron’s injuries on my “family” blog.  They are pretty graphic and just plain yucky, so I didn’t want to show those here.  However, so many of you know him, I thought you might want to know about his injuries.  http://houseofzhong.blogspot.com
